Threads Clean Link
Meta Link Clearer covers the sharing flow on mobile; Threads Clean Link is its open-source Chrome counterpart for the desktop — when a Threads link is copied in the browser, short codes are resolved and tracking parameters removed, so the URL written to the clipboard is already clean.
Features
Right-click resolution of share links
Right-click any /share/ short link on any page and select "Copy clean Threads post link"; the resolved clean URL is written directly to the clipboard.
Automatic cleanup of the native "Copy link"
Threads' web "Copy link" writes either a short code or a full URL carrying the xmt tracking parameter. The extension intercepts the write, resolving short codes and removing parameters; on timeout or failure, the original content is passed through unchanged.
A copy button in the post action bar
A link icon is added next to each post's share button; clicking it copies the post's clean URL. The button matches the native controls in appearance.
History stored locally only
Each successful cleanup is recorded with its source, with search, filtering, and JSON export/import; entries are capped at 1,000 with automatic pruning, stored only on this device, and can be disabled or cleared at any time.
Links are cleaned the moment you copy
The two frames below are taken from the Chrome Web Store listing (interface text in Chinese) and correspond to the two core functions above.
The same privacy principles
- No user data is collected or uploaded; no remote code
- Resolving a short code requires one anonymous request (no cookies, no login credentials) — the same approach as the app
- The <all_urls> and clipboardRead permissions are not declared; existing clipboard content is never read
Relationship to the Android app
Both tools follow one design principle: Meta Link Clearer handles the sharing flow on mobile, Threads Clean Link handles the copying flow on the desktop, and the same tracking parameters are removed in each case.
They operate independently of each other. The extension is open source under the MIT license, with its cleaning logic fully public — the source can be inspected and issues reported at any time.
