Guide

From install to daily use, five short sections to make Meta Link Clearer your default way to share links.

Install

The app is currently in testing on Google Play: join as a tester through the testing link first, then install it from Google Play (see "Join the test" on the home page).

No sign-up or login needed — open it and it's ready to use.

Your first share

Open the post you want to share in Instagram, Threads, or Facebook and tap Share.

Choose Meta Link Clearer from the share targets.

The app strips tracking parameters and resolves short links, then pops the share sheet right back up so you can forward the clean link to the next person — with the app itself excluded from the list.

Pin it for quick access

Share sheets are usually sorted by frequency, so Meta Link Clearer may not be near the top the first time.

Long-press its icon in the share sheet and choose "Pin" or "Add to favorites" (exact wording varies by system version) so it stays near the top for one-tap sharing.

History and details

Cleaned links stay on the main screen as author-and-excerpt preview cards, for both Threads and Instagram; links without a preview (such as some Facebook posts) fall back to a URL card.

Tap a card to open its details: the cleaned link, the original link, and every stripped tracking parameter, each with its own copy button. Links resolved more than once also get a timeline listing each time and source (share or clipboard).

The list is searchable and filterable by a rolling time window (24 hours / 7 days / 30 days, default 7 days), and the same link arriving through different paths merges into one entry.

Settings

"Background processing" is off by default: when off, the relay-share flow pops up the share sheet as soon as cleaning finishes; when on, everything happens in the background — the clean URL is copied to your clipboard and you stay in the app you came from.

Settings also lets you clear your history with one tap; all records live only on your device.

Troubleshooting

A friend says they can't open the link I shared?

First check the post's visibility setting (is it public?), whether the account is private and they don't follow it, or whether they've been blocked. These are platform-side visibility issues unrelated to tracking parameters, and cleaning the link won't fix them.

Meta Link Clearer doesn't show up in the share sheet?

Confirm the app is installed and that system sharing permissions allow plain-text/link sharing to it. On some systems you may need to reopen the share sheet once for it to refresh.

Closed the relay-share sheet by accident?

No need to start over: open Meta Link Clearer, tap that entry's history card to open its details, and copy or share the cleaned link again any time. If you use the clipboard flow via background processing and another app overwrote the clipboard, the same history card gets it back.

A card says "post deleted or private" or "network timeout"?

When short-link resolution fails, the card is labeled with the reason. "Post deleted or private" is a platform-side state the link itself can't recover from; transient issues like a network timeout just need one more share once your connection is stable. Successful resolutions are cached on-device for 7 days, so the same short code is never fetched twice.
